Lately the bills have been starting to flow in. After spending some bucks cleaning those carpets and all the other stuff going on around the house its starting to add up.
I’ve pretty much maximized how many hours I can work in one day. When I say I’m working at least half the day I’m talking about working for at least 12 hours.
So the other option is to start cutting and saving. Yes it time to really start some thrifty living in the old household. No more name brand soap unless its at least half price. I really don’t care if my mother-in-law is coming over to stay she can use the cheap stuff to.
The key to saving is stop giving it all away. You work hard to make those few dollars so you may as well keep them. I can’t believe the money that some people spend shopping for certain brand name items in stores. Advertising exists so you and me are convinced that brand A works better than brand B. But really do we need to spend 50 per cent more for an extra 2 per cent of performance.
One household budget item that didn’t exist a few years ago are cell phones. Because they are somewhat newer you really have to watch those cell phone bills when they arrive in the mail. You can get some good deals on low cost cell phone service if you keep your eyes open. You have to watch out for all those little extras like charging for voice mail, text messages etc.
Another way to increase that bank account is to pay attention to that bank account. I recently was shocked, actually it was more of a blind rage, to find out my wife’s saving account was only paying her .25 per cent. Really it was only one-quarter of one per cent. The bank manager was likely going to lunch everyday on the bucks the bank was making off her account. I guess he couldn’t be bothered to tell her about the banks high interest saving accounts.Take it in at .25 and lend it out at 8.5 per cent. Thats one hell of a nice margin.
